New-age carrier Vietjet has launched its Phu Quoc–Hong Kong route, making it the first airline to operate direct services between the two destinations.

The new route is expected to contribute to improving air travel and trade between Viet Nam and Hong Kong as well as across the region, Vietjet said in a statement.

It is also Vietjet’s second route to Hong Kong from Viet Nam following its HCM City–Hong Kong route, according to the airline.

The Phu Quoc–Hong Kong route operates return flights with a frequency of four flights per week. With a flight time of 2 hours and 45 minutes per leg, the flight departs Phu Quoc at 10.50am and lands in Hong Kong at 2.35pm (local time). The return flight departs from Hong Kong at 3.40pm (local time) and arrives in Phu Quoc at 5.25pm.

Vietjet plans to open 20 new international routes by the end of this year, transporting nearly 28 million passengers. Currently, it operates about 400 flights daily on 113 routes covering destinations across Viet Nam and several other countries.

In the next three years, Vietjet aims to maintain its position in domestic transport, expand international routes, invest in developing the aviation’s infrastructure and enhance human resource training. — VNS
